Almost 4.1GHz. I'm glad Fall has arrived.

4080MHz

I opened a window and let the cool air in tonight. Still on air (Tuniq Tower 120).

Air-cooling. VCore at 1.585v (bios). Untweaked Server 2003.

Water

I've decided to give watercooling another try. I've ordered a number of parts, including the AquaXtreme MP-05. I'm told it's a good CPU block. I will run tests outside the case, then decide later whether to put everything inside.

32M

I managed a personal best with air-cooling in SuperPi 32M. I was running with one core disabled. The 0022 bios allows one to do that on the P5W64-WS Pro. The OS was Server 2003 (untweaked).

Tweaking

Did some tweaking. P5B Deluxe and X6800. 530FSB seems very stable.

Scythe update

The Scythe Infinity is a decent cooler. But I still like the Tuniq Tower 120 better. The Infinity uses plastic push pins to attach the heatsink to the motherboard. Although those pins do a good job of securing the HSF, I feel screws would be a better solution.

Scythe did a much better job than Tuniq of lapping the heatsink. But the fan that comes with it turns at only 1000rpm, half as much as the Tuniq.

P5W64-WS Pro

Have begun testing the Asus P5W64-WS Pro. Air-cooled results above. As is the case with the P5WDG2-WS Pro, this board overvolts a little.

Air Tests

Air tests with X6800 and P5B Deluxe (0614 bios). No mods to board. Tuniq Tower 120 for cooling.

FBS Testing

Testing FSB on P5B Deluxe with X6800.

Smoke

A forest fire has been burning for a week about an hour's drive from where I live. Smoke from the fire is creating an ugly haze throughout the area. The air quality is really bad. Even our cat noticed it. When he went outside today, he immediately began crying out, something I'd never seen him do before. Let's hope firefighters get this blaze under control soon because the smoky haze is really depressing.

E6400

I picked up a retail E6400. This is my first experience with Allendale processors. Seems okay. Probably not the best E6400 out there.

Bears

One of my wife's hobbies is making bears and also their clothes. Some she keeps, while others are donated to charity. Our cat is jealous of all the bears.

Scythe

I need another good HSF, so I ordered the Scythe Infinity. It's supposed to be very good. Had originally planned to get another Tuniq Tower 120. But they are nearly impossible to find right now. I'll let you know how the two compare.

Importance of RAM Speed

Is RAM speed important. You betcha. I ran a couple of dual-SuperPi tests. The first test was done at 3842MHz with 1:1 ratio. Memory running at 427MHz (3-3-3 timings). Second test was at 3564MHz with 2:3 ratio. Memory at 594MHz (4-4-3). The increased memory speed more than makes up for the lower CPU speed.

P5W DH revisited

A few people have noticed the newer Asus P5W DH Deluxe boards offer northbridge chipset voltage up to 1.85v. This should help with FSB overclocking.

Kentsfield @ 5.2GHz

This is the most amazing result I've seen so far with Kentsfield. Kaz-n in Japan reached 5251MHz using LN2 cooling. As you can see, he was using an 18 multiplier. Because Kentsfield is an Extreme Edition processor, the multipliers are unlocked both up and down.
